Excerpt from Silvanus and Ruth, or the Operations of Providence With Respect to Matrimony
The most or this little poem was com posed about ten years ago. By several friends, it was then pronounced worthy of publication. The author, however, not being sufficiently satisfied, and not having time to finish and revise it. Laid it aside for some future time. The passing years being so heavily laden with other work, the poem was compelled to remain in solitude until about two weeks ago, when Providence opened up the way and the Muses came again to assist in revising and finishing it. It is now sent forth to the public with the prayer that it will glorify God, and be enter taining and helpful to both young and old.
