Excerpt from The Elements of Reconstruction: A Series of Articles Contributed in July and August 1916 to the Times
I appeared some little time ago in the columns of the Times. I know nothing about the authors except what can be gathered from their own writ ing. But the articles from the outset arrested my attention, as they doubt less did that of many others, by their originality and breadth of view, and so I read on with steadily growing in terest and sympathy. The suggestions of the writers appeared to me to deserve more than a cursory perusal, and I am glad that they are now to be given to the public in a permanent form.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book proposes a comprehensive plan for Britain's reconstruction after World War 1. It argues that to compete with Germany and address domestic food supply, businesses must be amalgamated and brought under State control. The industrial and economic system must change from one consisting of a large number of small, competing businesses to a more modern system of larger, more efficient businesses operating on a far wider basis. The author asserts that the traditional national method of education, training, and research is inadequate. Instead, the book advocates for a new education system to be developed alongside the industrial and economic system, so that students are instructed in, and become parties to, the great national industrial undertakings. Furthermore, the book discusses the urgent need to address the possibilities of acute labor trouble after the war and argues that the key to a successful resolution lies in comprehensive amalgamations and syndicates into which the State enters as a controlling partner. This insightful analysis of the economic challenges faced by Britain in the aftermath of World War 1 provides a valuable perspective on the complexities of economic reconstruction.
