Excerpt from Subgenation: The Theory of the Normal Relation of the Races; An Answer to "Miscegenation"

The teachings of physiology as well as the inspira tions of Christianity, settle the question that all the tribes which inhabit the earth were originally derived from one type, says the author of Miscegenation. This is a bold assertion, unsupported by proof, and yet it is this premise, thus audaciously assumed, which is the foun dation of his whole argument. Demolish this and every thing else that he says, disappears as the baseless fabric of a vision. Now the writer of this pamphlet undertakes to assert, and he will proceed to prove, that the teachings of physiology and the inspirations of Christianity, warrant no such a conclusion, but on the contrary, lead to exactly the Opposite Opinion. The writer of Miscegenation, would impress the public with the idea. That no respectable authority questions his assumption, and yet the illustrious Agassiz has de clared that the view of mankind, as originating from a single pair, Adam and Eve, is neither a Biblical view nor a correct view, nor one agreeing with the results of science and profound veneration for the Sacred Scriptures prompts us to pronounce the prevailing view of the origin of man, animals and plants, as a mere hu man hypothesis, not entitled to more consideration than belongs to most theories formed in the infancy of Science.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book presents a provocative and controversial argument about the relationship between different races. The author challenges the prevailing belief that all humans are descended from a single pair, arguing instead that distinct races were created separately and possess unique physical and intellectual characteristics. This concept of racial diversity, rooted in the scientific thought of the time, reflects a broader historical context where the idea of human hierarchy was widely accepted. The book's core argument centers on the concept of "subgenation," a term coined by the author to describe the natural order of races, with some races inherently superior to others. This idea is juxtaposed with "miscegenation," the mixing of races, which the author condemns as a threat to societal stability and national strength. Through historical examples from ancient Egypt and Carthage, the author argues that miscegenation leads to moral decay and ultimately national decline. The author's bold claims and use of historical examples make this book a fascinating and thought-provoking exploration of a deeply complex issue. Its insights into the historical understanding of race, and the potential social consequences of racial mixing, offer a unique perspective on a topic that remains relevant and debated today. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
