Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book examines the behaviors, adaptations, and evolutionary history of six insect species that have become household pests or otherwise demonstrate a high adaptability to human habitation. The author, a renowned entomologist, provides an up-close look at their life cycles, feeding habits, and the physical and behavioral characteristics that enable them to not only survive, but thrive, in the presence of humans. The author adds historical context by tracing the arrival and spread of these insects across the globe, introducing how they progressed from their native habitats to become cosmopolitan species. The book culminates with a discussion of the significance of these insects as vectors of disease, the damage they cause to crops and stored food, and the methods developed to control their populations.
