Excerpt from Manual of Navigation Laws: An Historical Summary of the Codes of the Maritime Nations
The greater space is naturally accorded to the narrative of the rise and development of the American Navigation Code, and an exhibit of its present status; while the history of the Maritime Charter of England, now a closed chapter, is given in larger detail than is that of the Codes of other foreign nations, since that Code was the model upon which all others were more or less fashioned.
As in the Ship Subsidies manual, care has been taken to point in footnotes to the documents, records, and author ities, by volume and page, from which the data have been drawn, and to indicate where may be found the fuller text or statement of acts, agreements, or proceedings.
