It is also known and admitted by all parties, that when yel low fever is epidemic in any part of a city, that the infected atmosphere, when confined in a close room for several days, at a temperature of not less than 800 of Fahrenheit, loses none of its properties, but often acquires a new degree of vir alence. As before observed, it is known that this miasm, or infection, when it exists in abundance, as it does in all infect e:l places, diffuses itself into every recess and interstice into which common air can penetrate. Hence every chamber, every alley, street, avenue and cellar, within its limits, be comes alike infected during an epidemic. It diffuses itself also in beds, bedding, and bales of blankets, and other porous articles, which always contain much air: and when retained in these, in a suitable temperature, it often acquires an increas ed virulence, in like manner with that which has been con fined ih close rooms. But when, in addition to the infected air of the rooms, the beds are saturated with the secretions and exhalations of human bodies in disease, it is called forni Zes, or fomes, and is, decidedly, in all infectious diseases, more morbific than the infection diffused in the open air. In yel low fever, the exhalations from the diseased body unquestion ably add to the virulence of the infected air, when so confin ed: hencethis kind of infection, (or fomes,) is more deleterious. To all who breathe it, than the infection of the open air.
