Congress passed Public Law 92-500, Federal Water Pollu tion Control Act Amendments of containing a section 208 that outlines methods for identifying and treating agriculturally related nonpoint sources of pollution. Both this act and the recognition that sediment transports chemical pollutants (such as plant nutrients, pesticides, and heavy metals) have led to increased efforts to control sediment.
