Excerpt from A New Practical System for Teaching and Learning the French Pronunciation, in Seven Lessons: Illustrated and Supported by Numerous Examples From the Best French Poets
To acquire the pronunciation of the French language, is the business of a few days only, provided that it is properly taught in the beginning. Yet, easy as it may be, it is necessary to have a method. There are different ways of travelling, but some of them are more speedy, and cost less trouble, or time, and are safer than others; so it is with learning.
To gather and present the general principles of an art, or a science, in the smallest possible space, that the learner may get hold of them as if it were at first sight, without being perplexed or embarrassed by unintelligible or useless rules and exceptions, must necessarily be the easiest, as well as the surest way of im parting and acquiring speedily every kind of practical knowledge. Such has been the object in view in the composition and arrange ment of this small work.
