This is a tale of intrigue and love and battle. It involves a romance between a young American infantry captain and a Swiss schoolteacher who is working in the headquarters of Patton's Third Army, first in Nancy, France, and later in Luxembourg City. German agents infiltrate the American lines and create considerable havoc. In the final phases of the Third Army's counterattack, the Captain develops imaginative tactics to convert a rifle battalion into a machine-gun battalion for devastating firepower across snow-covered fields and through the frosty forests and villages of the Ardennes.
