Post war he served ten years in the Merchant Navy, working his way up to Chief Engineer. Going 'ashore 'in the fifties, he started his own shipping business that soon saw boom ¿but then bust with the oil crisis of 1973 -74. George survives his wife Sarah and has four children and seven grandchildren. He has lived in England for fifty years.
