Placing human evolution in a broader evolutionary context, the authors incorporate both the ′hard science′ of the study of human evolution and the more difficult to study objectively ′human′ side of the field. The problems of human evolution are approached in terms of general evolutionary models. While the coverage spans recognition of the breadth of the field, the focus of the text is on the principles involved. The new teachable format of the second edition is further enhanced in the third edition to incorporate new discoveries, additional sections on the molecular processes of evolution and evo–devo, a re–written chapter on genetics and thoroughly revised and re–organized final chapters onthe evolutionrary approach to humans in recent prehistory and human biology and a revised art program.
