Every immigrant has a unique story to tell ? a tale of two worlds, of monumental adjustments and of overcoming stereotypes while preserving cherished memories and cultural identity. Meir Naman has collected drops of wisdom in his pool of personal experience, and he shares a philosophical outlook on life in Adam?s Rib: An Invitation to Reality. The book begins in 1979, when a sheltered child is preparing to make the journey of a lifetime. Naman was only 11 when he joined many friends and relatives in Los Angeles, leaving his parents behind in Iran. Accustomed to wealth, he had to discover a new way of life in crowded American streets. A shy stranger among foreign classmates with whom he could not even communicate, he accepted the difficult challenge of learning a new language and culture. As Naman?s story unfolds, his parents join him in America, and he must soon divide his time between school and as a part-time employee for his father?s new business. College brings a wealth of opportunities and a series of romantic experiences that both enrich his life and break his heart. From the delicate relationships cultivated in the world of international commerce to the influential qualities of Hebrew philosophy to the effects of male chauvinism on the human experience, Adam?s Rib steps from one subject to another in an intricate and intriguing dance from which each reader can learn. All the while, Naman?s fascinating experiences serve as a unique background to each genuinely enlightening topic. An exhilarating adventure awaits those who accept this ?invitation to reality.?
