A veteran storyteller and talented artist, he weaves his story by chronicling the historical events and personal experiences of his service life between the actual letters he wrote home that were preserved for him by his mother. In Me, Mom and World War II, the reader steps back in time to experience life as the middle child of a large Italian-American family growing up in a small steel town in Western Pennsylvania. The loss of their father, and living through The Great Depression followed by "the emergency" brought on by the bombing of Pearl Harbor forged within them a strength and courage that held them together.

Al Pishioneri was born in Hillsville, PA on January 30th, 1921, one of ten children born to Guiseppi and Felicia Pishioneri. He served in WWII. He was an Air Cadet, attended St. Vincent College, Latrobe, PA. Classified as an Armorer Gunner at Armorer school at Buckley Field, Denver CO.; Aerial Gunnery at Harlingen, Texas, then to the B-24 Liberator; joining an air crew of ten. Flew the Northern route to East Anglia, UK. completed many training missions over the North Sea, then 35 combat missions. returned to USA in May 1945. Discharged October 11, 1945 from Amarillo, TX. After the war, Pishioneri returned Ellwood City, PA., where he matriculated three months later at St. Vincent College, Latrobe, PA. Received a BS Degree in American History, taught 17 1/2 years high school in PA and then 20 years in East Brunswick, NJ middle school; retired in 1986. Pishioneri is married to Lillian E. Frichtel, since 1947. They have a daughter Felicia and sons Larry and Richard. Cara, wife Keven Calichio has Nick and Andrew, our two great-grandsons. The family has been in New Jersey since 1967.
