Excerpt from Astronomy for Everybody a Popular Exposition of the Wonders of the Heavens
The writer who attempts to set forth the facts of tronomy without any use of technical language finds h self in the dilemma of being obliged either to con' only a very imperfect idea of the subject, or to en upon explanations of force and motion which his rea may find tedious. In grappling with this difficulty author has followed a middle course, trying to pres the subject in such a way as to be intelligible and int esting to every reader, and entering into technical planations only when necessary to the clear understa ing of such matters as the measure of time, the chan of the seasons, the varying positions of the conste tions, and the aspects of the planets. It is hoped t the reader who does not wish to master these sub jt will find enough to interest him in the descriptions s illustrations of celestial scenery to which the bulk of work is devoted.
