This constitutes the Proceedings of the 22nd IFIP TC7 Conference held in July 2005, in Torino, Italy, and dedicated to Camillo Possio, on the 60th anniversary of his death during the last air raid over Torino. The papers in this volume concern primarily stochastic and distributed systems, their control/optimization, and inverse problems. These proceedings also explore applications of optimization techniques and computational methods in fields such as medicine, biology and economics.

International Federation for Information Processing
The IFIP series publishes state-of-the-art results in the sciences and technologies of information and communication. The scope of the series includes: foundations of computer science; software theory and practice; education; computer applications in technology; communication systems; systems modeling and optimization; information systems; computers and society; computer systems technology; security and protection in information processing systems; artificial intelligence; and human-computer interaction. Proceedings and post-proceedings of referred international conferences in computer science and interdisciplinary fields are featured. The Seventh Technical Committee, established in 1972, was created in 1968 by A.V. Balakrishnan, J.L. Lions and G.I. Marchuk with a joint conference held in Sanremo and Novosibirsk. The present edition of the conference is dedicated to Camillo Possio, killed by a bomb during the last air raid overTorino, in the sixtieth anniversary of his death. The special session 'On the Possio equation and its special role in aeroelasticity' was devoted to his achievements.
