Chapter One

Sunny is eight years old. She is a very happy little girl who loves playing outside with her dog, Ben. When she is not playing with her dog, she enjoys playing with her friends - Kathy, Peter and Laura.

They play in the sandbox and make all kinds of goodies with sand and water or they make mud pies and cookies. Sometimes they ride bikes or play on the swing set in the back yard.

When it's too cold or raining outside, Sunny plays indoors with her friends. When her cousin Max comes to visit, he brings his favorite toys and they build things with them.

Sunny likes to go to school. She enjoys her school days and gets good grades by being a good listener.

Her favorite day of the week is Wednesday. That is the day she takes horseback riding lessons at the neighborhood riding academy. Oh, how Sunny loves to ride!

Sunny wears hearing aids because she doesn't hear very well. But she keeps doing the things that all children love to do!

One day, all of a sudden, Sunny could not hear her teachers or any sounds. She had just gotten new hearing aids and she thought they were not working right. She hoped the new aids were not broken. Sunny became worried and very unhappy. How was she going to enjoy school days and playing with her friends and her dog and her cousin, Max?
