Sobrausa E. M. Ibim is a naturalized US citizen, born in Buguma, in the Rivers State (RS) of Nigeria. He obtained his B.Sc degree in Agriculture (Animal Science) at Fort Valley State College, Fort Valley, GA; a master of science (M.Sc) in Veterinary Science at Tuskegee Institute, Alabama; he obtained his doctoral degree (Ph.D) at Clark Atlanta University, Atlanta, GA in Biology. Three months following completion of the doctoral studies, he accepted a postdoctoral fellowship position at Dr. Cato Laurencin's Laboratory, in the department of Chemical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In 1993, he was the recipient of National Institute of Health (NIH) Minority Investigator Award and his research work was directed at the synthesis and characterization of biodegradable Trimelitylimido-polyanhydrides for bone reconstruction and tissues engineering. Sobrasua Ibim has taught in several colleges for over 12 years including Morris Brown College, Atlanta, GA, where he was a tenured associate professor; Clark Atlanta University; Decatur Technical Institute; Georgia Perimeter (GPC), Gordon State College and currently at Atlanta Metropolitan College. Sobrasua Ibim teaches anatomy and physiology, general biology, general sciences. He is currently studying Public Health with concentration in epidemiology. His research interests include tissue engineering using biodegradable polymers, purification of bioactive molecules; plant chemicals for lowering blood pressure and cholesterol. His hobby includes paintaing, bike-ridding, photography, gardening and woodwork.
