In countries like India the dung is collected and used as biogas which is used to generate electricity and heat. The gas is a rich source of methane and is used in rural areas of India to provide a renewable, stable and environment friendly source of electricity. This was the mother of all bioenergy. Recent awareness of climate change, harm full effect of carbon and methane gas emission and constantly growing demand of petroleum products made it necessary to look in to the field of renewable energy. Bioenergy is created with the assistance of living plants, animal excretes and municipality industrial wastes commonly referred to as "Biomass". Technologies to convert biomass to biogas, electricity and biodiesel involve chemical process, heat, pressure, enzymes and genetic engineering science. This book suggests that communities should begin to look at alternative energy resources. What are the benefits of using renewable energy technologies. Which renewable biomass is cheaper to produce and examples of some processes. There are many things we should debate about. We must find out why these technologies are not widely accepted. What are the obstacles, what are the environmental and social costs? In order to start the debate greater understanding of the technology is needed as well as greater penetration of the technology to the masses.
