Eric Sorila-Rothberg is not an ordinary travel photographer. Sweet Pain is a sequel to his previous travel book Green Mattress Under theStars.Eric belongs to a diminishing minority using a large format view camera and plate film. Instead of staying in luxury hotels he stays in backpacker type hostels or even under the stars. His search for the perfect picture around the globe on a shoestring budget is very painful at times. The fact that after forty years and some 140 countries he keeps photographing and traveling frugally must be rewarding in some kind of sweet pain. To support his passionate lifestyle of travel and photography his last job among many was being a teacher at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. After leaving his teaching position in 1991 he has been a "starving artist" dedicating much of his time to photography, writing and other independent projects. With a degree in history from the University of British Columbia Eric likes to combine his landscape photography with historical subjects, and is presently photographing historical castles of the world. Eric lives with his wife Josephine in a hundred year old house in Vancouver Canada.
