The Author's poems cover many aspects of our journey through life, showing compassion, insight and strength as well as vulnerability. They cause the reader to reflect on their own life and find within themselves that which they seek, be it patience, tolerance, understanding or even love and acceptance. To be loved we must first accept and love ourselves for who we are.

The author, Dr. Riley Byrd Jr, was born at home on the Lemons Cotton Plantation in Proctor, Arkansas, in 1951. He was raised and educated in Kern County, California and received his Doctorate in Education from Trinity University in 1979. He started writing at a young age but only seriously in 2007 when he started work on his romantic saga, THE BIGGS OF SCOTT COUNTY. Experiencing writer's block, Dr. Byrd took up the writing of poetry to maintain his online readership until he went back to the writing of his novel. A former police and correctional officer Dr Byrd met many people at their worst and observed how they handled adverse situations. It is this experience and knowledge, along with his Cherokee heritage, that he draws upon in his writings. This book is but a small portion of his work over the past four years.
