My son died several years ago while in the military. I never thought that I would be putting together a book, but with the sudden death of my son, I was led to write this one. The only reason for doing so was to bring my sons stories to print. Even on the day of his funeral, his friends asked me to find a way to get his work published. His aspiration had always been to be an author from the time he was a little boy. At a young age, he would write books, sign them and give them to family members. He would tell them to save them, because they would be worth money someday. As his life was cut short, you will find most of his stories were as well, as he did not get the time needed to complete them. One story, Kings, was the last story he was working on, while at basic training. There are several complete stories, all fiction, that seems to be not only mythical but romantic. Share in my journey down the path of grief by reading of the signs we have gotten from Samm, as well as others stories of his visits. Enjoy the stories that I found after his death and that his friends shared with me.

I am the mother of three beautiful children. Samm's sisters were older than him, and after they went off to college, it was just him and me for a length of time. Samm got his love for stories from me, as I have always been an avid reader. Although I love to read, and go nowhere without my kindle, I never imagined writing a book. Over the years, I have enjoyed dancing, camping, fishing and traveling.But family is the most important part of my life. I am involved in many missions with my church, but the one closest to my heart is our food pantry, Crossroads Food Pantry. Samm was a compassionate and giving person, and in honor to the life he lived, I volunteer at the food pantry, handing out food to hundreds of families a month. I have gone through many challenges with my children. My oldest daughter has been in two near fatal accidents, one just before she turned 16 and the other at 21. I thank God everyday for sparing her life. She is a talented, creative and amazing woman, who created the cover of this book. My other daughter had a hole in her heart, and as they attempted to close the hole with a coil, the device malfunctioned and turned one health issue into two. Over the next year, she had to have several other surgeries, one to repair the damage and the other to repair the hole in her heart. This happened in between my first daughters two accidents. When I thought the worst was behind me was when I lost Samm. The one gift Samm's death brought was the knowledge that something so precious as life can be taken so quickly. So rather than focus on things that are no longer important, I relish every minute I can with my daughters, son in laws and husband. At this time, I am not ruling out writing another book. The next one would detail the journey I am on, the day to day struggles that a mother goes through while learning to walk in a new World without one of her children. I would also like to bring other Gold Star families stories to light, and give them a voice in their journey. But for right now, I am going to do what I have done since December of 2011, when we lost Samm. I am taking one day at a time, sometimes one moment at a time.
