Don Shepperd retired from the Pentagon in 1998 as head of the Air National Guard. He was a major general with almost forty years in the United States Air Force. He flew 247 combat fighter missions in the Vietnam War. He covered the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan for CNN. He is the author and editor of several books.
