Sinossi

This is the first adventure in the true life of a dog I adopted as a little puppy. When he was left alone he became despondent and nearly died, however love can conquer so much. Once he was re-united with his owner, his adopted human mother, he felt the love she had for him change his sadness to comfort and strength. This is the first in a future series of books detailing the real life adventures of a real dog who lives in the Democratic Republic of Congo. While it is an interesting dog story it is mainly intended as a cultural book to use the dog as a liaison of sharing life in the Congo with young readers. We all know of the regular sad stereotypes given to Africa in general and the Congo in specific. The Adventures of Rou are not intended to do that. They are intended to show the other side of life, the life that rarely makes the news, the life of the day to day people and their complexities. It is written for a younger audience to make the pictures do some of the talking. Rou and I hope you enjoy learning of these adventures as many of them we experienced together.

Informazioni sull'autore

Aleta Kazadi spent ten years living in Kinshasa, the capitol of the Democratic Republic of Congo, located in the heart of Africa right on the Equator. She went there after losing her husband. There she learned a new culture and a new way of life. She writes to share the life she experienced in the Democratic Republic of Congo as she found learned it while living there. She found that we are much more alike than different. This book is about the friendship of a family and the friendship of a person and her dog. It ties in cultural issues introduced to the reader without preaching or lecturing. Before going to the Congo, Aleta Kazadi was a mother of 4 children, all grown and parents of their own. She taught for roughly twenty five years in special, regular and gifted education. She likes to lead students to discovering for themselves as opposed to telling them something. When teaching science she has been known to tell students who could not give a logical reason for their answer and who fell back and simply quoted the teacher, that the answer they gave was wrong because they needed to know why it is right. When teaching social studies she has been known to send students to the internet to discover the countries they were studying and often the students themselves had questions about what they heard either on the news or in their text book as they discovered the subjects they researched. In this light Aleta Kazadi hopes to engage the readers to critically see and wonder about the stories she writes. She wants readers to come to the Congo with her through her books and see it as she saw it, a fascinating country full of music, good food, kind people and interesting relationships. She points out to anyone asking, if you want sad stories listen to the news, I will tell you about the stories I experienced, most of which were good. She presently lives in the US in Northern California. The Adventures of Rou is presently the first in a series intended for school libraries as well as home libraries.
