ESFJs possess many strong, positive qualities. Conversely, there are also some areas in which an ESFJ's personality may require improvement. Note that these qualities should not be viewed as limitations, but as opportunities for growth. Awareness is the first step toward self-improvement and personal development.
1. Concern Regarding Social Status
A notable area for improvement involves the ESFJs extreme concern for their social status. Not only do ESFJs want to be liked, but they also view themselves as a reflection of the society in which they live. They thrive on social interactions and being part of a crowd. They value what other people think about them. In fact, a big part of their personal satisfaction stems from knowing that they are socially accepted. While this enables them to build connections and expand their social network, it also leads to excessive worrying about their status. Because they are preoccupied with how they are perceived by society, ESFJs have a tendency to limit themselves. They shy away from thoughts or actions that might come across as too extreme or different, which in turn might end up stunting their open-mindedness and imagination. Sometimes, they will go so far as to sacrifice their own opinions entirely just to agree with the majority. ESFJ's incessant worrying about how others see them can also lead to an ESFJ becoming insecure and developing low self-esteem.
2. Resistance to Change
ESFJs are driven by Extroverted Feeling, which relates to the perception of ideas, situations, and life in general. This makes ESFJs uncomfortable with unfamiliar territories. They possess a "place for everything and everything in its place" perception of the world. When ESFJs feel as though their view of the world is challenged, they instinctively shut out the new information.
