II. On peut ajouter que Charles le Gros n'alla 'a Paris en 886 ou en 887 que pour faire lever le siégé de cette ville que les Normands avoient entrepris. Or ce siège fut levé au mois de novembre de l'an 886, ce qu'il est aisé de prouver en fixant la vérita ble époque de ce siège, sur laquelle la plu part de nos modernes ont fort varié. Les uns prétendent qu'il dura deux ans de suite que Charles le Gros marcha deux diverses fois pour le faire lever, savoir en 886 au mois de novembre de l'an 887. Les autres 3, quoique persuadés, sur l'auto rité d'abbon, que ce siégé ne dura qu'un an, c'est-à-dire d'un mois de novembre à l'autre, sont incertains de son époque ils en mettent le commencement en 885 ou en 886 ne parlent cependant que d'un seul voyage de Charles le Gros dans cette ville à cette occasion. Il est certain en effet que ce prince ne marcha qu'une fois au secours de Paris, sur la fin du siégé, qu'il fit lever.
