Excerpt from Myogenesis of the Chick
In the year 1900, Charles Bardeen.made the statement, On no subject in vertebrate embryology is the literature less complete than that concerning the development of the voluntary apparatus. Most of the work that has been done in the study of muscle development was carried on during the early part of the twentieth century. Recent work has been more along the lines of experimental work to test the validity of past results, and also to determine the potencies of developing embryos When subjected to varying influences. However, Hunter, 1935, in.his work with the hypoglossal musculature of the chick, and Homer, 1927, working on the thigh muscles have contributed considerably to the knowledge of the actual development and formation of the muscles of the chick. Since the greatest amount of work was done between 1900 and 1910, this paper will deal with the early embryologists only from an.historical point of view, and concentrate on the later theories and experiments as they affect the developing musculature of the chick in an effort to bring together in one paper the results of many investigators.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the detailed development of muscles in the early stages of chick embryology. The author traces the origins of the complex muscular system in chicks, from the initial formation of mesodermal segments to the eventual differentiation of specialized muscle groups. Drawing on extensive research and observations, the author provides a comprehensive account of the intricate processes involved in muscle development. The book delves into the roles of nerves in muscle innervation and examines the various theories and experiments that have shaped our understanding of this fascinating subject. Through its in-depth analysis, this book not only contributes to the field of embryology but also provides valuable insights into the fundamental mechanisms underlying muscle formation and function.
