Excerpt from Notes of Observations of Injurious Insects: Report, 1877
Whether much or little, those who will give the benefit of their knowledge in diminishing the great yearly loss from insect waste are doing good service to the country; and this first year's return shows how much may be gained by continuing the observations for the time which would be requisite to form fairly complete notes of treatment found successful generally, with the modifications required by each year's peculiar weather, or by soils and climates varying as widely as the range from Banfl' to South Devon.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book gathers observations from scientists and practical observers on injurious insects and provides remedies found successful in various districts. The author notes that while the winter of 1878 was unusually cold, the subsequent spring and summer were frequently wet and sunless, resulting in less than average damage to crops from insects. The author also includes notes on the unusual appearance of the Clouded Yellow Butterfly, seen abundantly from June through October across the south of England; the large numbers of Humble Bees in the spring; and the appearance of Cynips Kollari, a parasitic wasp, in Ireland. This book is a valuable resource for entomologists, farmers, and gardeners, providing a wealth of information on insect damage, remedies, and insect behavior in various weather conditions.
