The advantages to be derived, by those engaged in learning a lan guage, from an early acquaintance With its primitive words, induced the compiler to prepare the present Work for the use of his own pupils; and which he now presents to the public, in the hope of rendering it more generally useful. The subsequent pages, Which are intended to be com mitted to memory, contain the roots of nearly twenty-three thousand words most frequently occurring in Latin authors.
