Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the intricate world of 18th-century French architecture and aesthetics, with a particular focus on the concept of "le goût grec" (Greek taste) and its influence on design principles. The author explores the intellectual and cultural currents that shaped this period, examining the interplay between classical ideals, Enlightenment thought, and evolving notions of beauty. Through meticulous analysis of architectural treatises, philosophical writings, and the works of prominent figures like Marc-Antoine Laugier and Quatremàre de Quincy, the book sheds light on the debates surrounding architectural theory and practice. It examines the tension between the pursuit of rational principles and the subjective experience of beauty, as well as the influence of historical and cultural contexts on artistic expression. The author's insightful exploration extends beyond architecture to encompass broader themes of taste, aesthetics, and the relationship between art and society. By tracing the evolution of "le goût grec" and its impact on 18th-century France, the book offers a nuanced understanding of how cultural and intellectual shifts shape artistic movements and leave an enduring legacy on our understanding of beauty and design.
