The term statical hysteresis refers, as in the earlier reports,13 to the component of elastic lag which 1s independent of rate of loading of the elastic body during the load cycle. The elastic lag 1s the differ ence in deflection of an elastic body at any load m a load cycle in which the load is first increased to higher values and then decreased to the original value again. The component of the elastic lag depend ent on the rate of loading is due to elastic after working and is called hereditary hysteresis.
