Excerpt from An Essay on the Question of Reducing the Interest of the National Debt: In Which the Justice and Expediency of That Measure Are Fully Established
Of the corn laws at considerable length I have also endeavoured to shew the real im portance of our foreign trade, and the fatal effects'that the present system of taxation must have, not only on the commerce, but on the general prosperity of the country. Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the relationship between national debt, the value of currency, and the devastating economic effects of inflation. The author argues that inflation is caused by a government that spends far beyond its meansâ"leading to a form of taxation in which the value of people's savings and earnings are eroded. The book goes on to examine the case for reducing the interest on national debt in order to stimulate economic growth and reduce the tax burden, setting this idea within the context of the broader economic and political landscape of the time. The author argues that such a move would significantly benefit the productive classes, who suffer the most under the current system. Timely and provocative, this book shines a light on the historical causes of inflation and the need for a fairer economic system.
