They observed that while inbreeding itself could eliminate many growth issues, it also resulted in uniform plants that were less resistant to disease and environmental stress. By comparing the two methods, the author ultimately contends that genetic diversity and crossbreeding are more effective at producing high yields than the isolation of homozygous strains.
