Evelyn, the rancher's daughter and Harry, the mining engineer from England, shared romance by correspondence. How they meshed is the story of the Secret from the Little Red Box. The little red box of letters written 100 years ago, tweaks a reader's imagination. Life in the early 20th century mirrors what one finds today and what one found in the 19th century. The connections between family and friends create the stories, especially for lovers of historical fiction.

Jae Carvel is inspired by the many stories of her ancestors who came to Eastern Oregon as pioneers. She combines imagination with history to create the stories for her books. Jae is retired from teaching junior high and lives with her husband in the state of Washington, not far from her original home in Prairie City, Oregon where her stories are set. Jae has six grandchildren and two great grandchildren, making retirement just a word, not a way of life. She travels, gardens, golfs and writes novels.
