A resource for the novice band director and the collegiate instrumental music student. The compositions described in this book were composed within the time period of 1956 to 2001. These are compositions typically found in the file cabinets of many school band programs. Each descriptive analysis begins with a short introductory statement followed by six sections: rhythmic and metric observations; melodic and harmonic observations including keys; scoring observations in general, including required instrumentations, ranges, exposure of certain instruments, and part divisions; and woodwind, brass, and percussion scoring observations.
