This book aims to help school library media professionals integrate their program into the school's overall instructional plan. Part I addresses the components of the school environment, with separate chapters devoted to students, curriculum and instruction, the principal, the school district, and the community, in order to show how the library media program can interact with each component. Part II provides specific tactics for establishing the library media program as an active player in teaching and learning, with chapters on scheduling, planning, literacy, technology, and program evaluation. Each chapter contains discussion scenarios, plus suggested action strategies related to learning and teaching, information access, and program management. This revised edition reflects new national standards of the American Association of School Librarians and new guidelines of the International Society for Technology in Education. There is new material on the impact of No Child Left Behind, the influence of the web, and the educational needs of those born after 1983. Donham directs the library at Wartburg College in Iowa.
