Aström and Hägglund (both automatic control, Lund U.) present the final volume of their trilogy that began in 1988 with Automatic Tuning of PID Controller and continued in 1995 with PID Controllers: Theory, Design, and Tuning . They substantially expand on some of the topics discussed in the earlier volumes, and provide new chapters on controller design, feedforward design, replacement of the Ziegler-Nichols tuning rules, predictive control, loop and performance assessment, and interaction. They assume readers to be highly familiar with control theory and if not to have read the previous volumes, at least to be familiar with the topics they cover.
