Conventional fishery management practices have failed to prevent the collapse of fish stocks around the world. Sobel (The Ocean Conservancy) and Dahlgren (Perry Institute for Marine Science) describe the potential economic and biological benefits of no-take marine reserves--areas of the sea where the use of natural resources is prohibited. They look at how reserves can be designed to achieve specific objectives, and consider research needed to address gaps in current knowledge about reserves. Case studies from California, Belize, and the Bahamas are included, along with a few b&w photos. Annotation ©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
