This collection represents papers presented during the NATO Advanced Research Workshop on security issues held in Tbilisi, Georgia, in March 2007. Contributors in various scientific and technical fields respond to the perception that the world is both complex and insecure--a situation that probably endangers human progress, and perhaps even jeopardizes the survival of the species. Reducing the impact of the matrix requires first the recognition of complexity in the analysis of a situation, then the implementation of complex solutions into an already complex environment.
