Beginning chapters introduce a framework for comparative analysis of non-financial compensation instruments, and explain concepts of non-financial compensation as used in spatial planning. Case studies offer a comparison of the use of several types of market-oriented planning instruments (especially transferable development rights, or TDRs) in six countries: Japan, Spain, Korea, Italy, the US, and the Netherlands. The concluding chapters look at these instruments from economic, legal, and spatial perspectives. There is no subject index.
