It's got a cardboard cover, and a spiral binding. Does this book have clear illustrations or photographs? Yes, the illustrations are very clear. Would you recommend this book as a MUST HAVE? I wouldn't say it's a must-have, but it's really quite good, especially for beginners. As much as anything, it's great for giving ideas on how anything can be fixed, and some creative solutions, as well. It also goes into more detail on any one kind of fix that my "everything" book doesn't. It's also got creative ways of fixing things (like covering a placket with ribbon when buttons can't be replaced) or covering repairs with appliques, stuff like that. Again, I really think this is great for a beginning seamster who is interested in learning repairs (not the most fun part of sewing, but it's still quite useful). --pattern review dot com
