• Size H/8/5mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge

Pattern Notes

Work in continuous rounds; do not turn or join unless otherwise stated.

Mark first stitch of round, moving marker as work progresses.

Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.

Rnd 5: Sl st in next st, ch 1, working in back lps(see Stitch Guide), sc in each st around. (20 sc, 1 sl st)

Rnds 6 & 7: Sc in each st around.

Rnd 8: Sc in each of next 7 sts, [sc dec in next 2 sts] 3 times, sc in each of next 8 sts, join in beg sc. Fasten off. (18 sc)

Rnd 9: Sc join shocking pink with joining st, sc in each st around.

Rnd 10: Rep rnd 12 of Head. (21 sc)

Rnds 11–20: Sc in each st around. At end of last rnd, fasten off. Stuff Leg.

Back Leg

Make 2.

Rnds 1–8: Rep rnds 1–8 of Front Leg. (18 sc)

Rnds 9–20: With Aruba sea, rep rnds 9–20 of Front Leg.

Facial Features

For eyes, with black, embroider satin stitches(see illustration) over rnds 12–15.

For nostrils, with black, embroider 2 satin stitches on snout.

For mouth, with black, embroider straight stitches(see illustration) on snout.

Pinch each Ear slightly tog at bottom and sew to rnds 23 and 24 of Head.

Blaze

With white, ch 12, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Leaving a long tail for sewing, fasten off. Center on Head from snout to rnd 22 and sew in place.

Forelock

Cut 15 8-inch strands of teal. [Hold 3 strands tog, fold in half, insert hook in st at top of Head, pull folded end through, pull ends through fold, pull ends gently to tighten knot] 5 times across top of Head. Trim to desired length.

Mane

Cut 96 8-inch strands of teal. Working in same manner as Forelock, insert 2 strands held tog in each of 24 rows down center back of Head. On each side of center row, insert 1 strand in each row down back of Head. Trim to desired length or leave untrimmed for a shaggier appearance.

Tail

Cut 12 12-inch strands of teal. Working in same manner as Forelock, insert 3 strands held tog in each of 4 sts across rear of Body. Trim to desired length.

Sew Legs to Body.

Bridle

If desired, cut aglet (plastic or metal sheath) off ends of shoelace. Center shoelace over top of snout at bottom of Forelock. Wrap around snout, crisscross underneath at Neck and tack in place with straight pin coated with craft glue. Bring ends of shoelace around sides of Neck, tie loosely. Insert straight pin coated with craft glue through tied thickness of shoelace underneath Mane at back of Neck.
