As former Texas Ranger Ed Kane rode into his hometown, he sensed the undercurrent of tension and strain pervading the cool summer evening. Something was definitely wrong. The Conroys, an arrogant clan, had been terrorizing the valley ranchers with bands of marauding thugs, and the hate the townsfolk leveled against them had become almost palpable.
Suddenly, Kane finds himself defending young Tommy McGee, a neer-do-well and sometimes-rustler, against the fury of the Conroy brothers and their foreman Slade. Without giving it much thought at all, he's jettisoned himself at the center of a bloody feud.
