Etzel, MD, PhD, FAAP, is a pediatrician, an environmental epidemiologist, and a preventive medicine specialist who previously led the World Health Organization activities to protect children from environmental hazards. She is the editor of Pediatric Environmental Health, the American Academy of Pediatrics handbook for pediatricians. Sophie J. Balk, MD, FAAP, is a general pediatrician at The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore and a professor of pediatrics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, NY. She is the associate editor of Pediatric Environmental Health.
