Whist is a unique, trick-taking card game that was developed in England during the 17th century. It requires four players, takes about 30 minutes to play a game, and uses a simple deck of cards to play. It is descended from a card game called trump or ruff.
To start the game, two players with higher drawing cards play against the pair with the lower card draw. One unique aspect of the game is that the rules require that no one comments on the cards in any way: those on the table, those in the hand, or even about their general fortune in the game. Rather, during its early history, players worked to discover scientific ways to play and win the game. Card counting and remembering past plays are key in this game.
