Leading up to the triumph of the great Moon Landing was a dark time for the United States. With an enemy in the Soviet Union, ongoing wars, and a decline in morale, America joined the space race in a sprint to the Moon. From the early days of Sputnik to the lengthy Apollo missions, this book uncovers the moments leading to astronaut Neil Armstrong’s famous line: one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.
Meet great figures JFK, the Chosen Seven, Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and more NASA members, astronauts, and political leaders of the 20th century. Uncover surprising events such as the first Spacewalk, the tragedy of the Challenger mission, and the great creation of the James Webb telescope. Reflect on the lasting effects of the momentous Moon Landing and learn how it influenced space exploration and knowledge today.
