Riassunto

Follow Ruth Ann Just, a young Irish immigrant, on a devastating voyage to America in the hold of a tramp steamer. Walk the hospital wards with her as she recovers from a serious injury and feels a growing desire to become a doctor. Realize her frustration at being told that such a career is impossible because women are “not capable” of that high calling. Join her family’s dangerous journey into the untamed wilderness of 1800’s Michigan. Witness their efforts to establish a homestead despite the deadly ague virus and the irrational hatred of two brothers trying to destroy them. Experience her gratification at the many opportunities to treat sick and injured settlers in a place where doctors are a rarity.Share her joy at meeting young Levi Broas, the son of another pioneer family, and feel the intensity of their mutual attraction.Enjoy this historical/fictional story of ambition, danger and deep love about some of the people who built this great state.
