This book starts with the English settlement in 1607 in Jamestown. It traces the historical events which lead to the eventual establishment of the hamlet called Beaverdam. The settlement in 1607 was purely commercial, carried out by the London Company in England. The commercial endeavor failed and the settlement became a royal colony. The native Indians were a very real threat to the existence of the colony and its expansion. Eventually the white man prevailed , moving inland away from the great rivers into the wooded region that had been under the control of the natives. Tobacco became the cash crop for the colonies and that led to the build up of a large slave population. The effects of the Revolutionary War and Civil War are described and the eventual life style that evolved in the aftermath of that war. Railroads changed the lifestyle of many in Beaverdam and the emergence of paved roads and high speed autos caused another life changing, significant change. The plethora of historical artifacts in the Beaverdam region is described with notes about the background of these historical artifacts.
