This book is based upon the findings and studies conducted by the author during the course of his LL.M dissertation undertaken at National Law School of India University, Bangalore, India. It contains two sets of problems posing as a roadblock to the successful implementation of Indian Geographical Indications ; namely the formality of registering as an authorized user and secondly the lack of any quality enforcement mechanism in the Indian Geographical Indication(GI) regime framework, both of which result in poor administration of Indian GI regime and consequent loss to a vast number of registered Indian GIs, which despite being registered face rampant piracy and adulteration in India and abroad. The author traces what ails the present regime using interviews as a tool through field studies in the state of Karnataka in India and proposes indigenous solutions to the problems with the Indian GIs , both within the legal framework and outside, thus making it a highly interesting read for anyone who is interested in India's progress and stumbling blocks in its GI regime.
