Muhammad Alexander Russell Webb reprinted and sold the writings of Orientalists, Sufis, Modernist, and traditional Madhab following Muslims through his Moslem World Publishing Company. Webb published a response to von Bunsen’s article “Mahomet’s Place in the Church” in Notes and Queries in 1896. Webb’s review and von Bunsen’s expansion of the article published in his Islam, or True Christianity are reprinted in this volume. He sold reprints of his and von Bunsen’s articles also.

Ernst Christian Ludwig von Bunsen or Ernest de Bunsen (1819–1903) was an Anglo-German writer proposed a common origin for Buddhism, Essene Judaism and Christianity. Among his more popular works were The Angel-Messiah of Buddhists, Essenes and Christians (London, 1880), The Keys of Saint Peter; Or, the House of Rechab: Connected with the History of Symbolism and Idolatry (1867), and Islam, or true Christianity: including a chapter on Mahomed’s place in the church (London: Trubner, 1889) in English. Muhammad Alexander Russell Webb (1846-1915) was one of the earliest American converts to Islam and the founder of the Oriental Publishing Company at 1122 Upper Broadway which published his works Islam in America and A Guide to Namaz. His serials Moslem World, Voice of Islam, and the Voice of Islam and the Moslem World were published through his Moslem World Publishing Company. Webb was the main representative for Islam at the 1893 World Parliament of Religions in Chicago where he gave two speeches. After his movement fell apart, he continued to write for other newspapers and published two books about the Armenian and Turkish Wars from a Muslim point of view and served as the Honorary Turkish Consul in New York for Sultan Abdul Hamid II.
