Sinossi

Boost Creative Writing for 7-9 Year Olds addresses the Year 3 and Year 4 Programmes of Study for writing composition in the new (2014) National Curriculum for England. The activities provide additional reinforcement of key skills for slower learners and a structured framework to enable them to talk about their writing. SEN pupils and slower learners need extra support to help them to become confident writers. The structured planning sheets in Boost Creative Writing provide SEN pupils with non-prescriptive writing scaffolds, giving them the support they need. The sheets cover a range of writing genres, from stories and poems to book reviews and newspaper reports. Written by Judith Thornby, an experienced Learning Support Coordinator, the sheets have been extensively trialled and tested. They have been shown to boost children's writing skills, give pupils confidence and make them believe that they can write. While designed for SEN pupils these sheets can, and have, been used by pupils of all abilities.

Informazioni sull'autore

Judy Arden (formerly Judith Thornby) is an experienced former primary teacher and specialist in learning support. She has taught pupils with a range of abilities over 25 years, gaining a diploma in Specific Learning Difficulties in 1999. Being enthusiastic about promoting literacy skills, she has written the ‘Boost Spelling Skills’ series for top Infants (KS1) and Junior pupils (KS2). The books are also beneficial to older children who do not find spelling easy. Judy is also the author of 'Boost Creative Writing', a three-book series published by Brilliant Publications.

More about Judy:

I could describe myself as a retired teacher, but I don't feel retired. Anyway, my partner Mike has banned the word 'retired' from our vocabulary and describes us as self-employed with a variable work rate. Even though I'm not teaching anymore, I'm still learning and have thoroughly enjoyed having the time to put my books together.

I like to be occupied with a variety of activities such as gardening, walking, reading and swimming. I am also a puzzle enthusiast and always make time to tackle Crosswords, Sudoku and the like.

I enjoy baking and have reached a reasonable level of competence with my coffee cake, any type of cheesecake and different tray bakes. It was always my ambition to own an old style tea shop specialising in home baked cakes before I was drawn towards teaching.

As a bit of a minimalist I had no interest in starting any form of collection, until I was beguiled by Victorian/Edwardian poison bottles. I've built up quite a collection. I like the variety of shapes and sizes and the cobalt blue, emerald green and amber coloured glass. I've probably got the collection bug out my system now so don't think I'll be starting a thimble collection any time soon.

I would say Puerto Pollensa in Majorca is my favourite holiday spot, apart from the flying bit. Having an early morning swim in the clear warm sea followed by breakfast overlooking the beautiful bay, soaking in the hot sunshine, is not a bad start to the day.
